FAQs
Will the August 2021 term start in person or online?
All students in the School of Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, School of Arts and Sciences, and School of Graduate Studies will be starting virtual or online distanced learning on campus in Grenada for the August term.
Our priority is protecting your health, and that of the Grenada community, by preventing the spread of the disease. As part of our plan for a safe return to campus life, COVID-19 vaccinations will be required for all students, faculty, staff, and administrators on campus. We urge all students who have an opportunity to get fully vaccinated to do so as soon as possible. We remain committed to providing you with all the resources and support needed to be successful.
If I remain virtual for the August 2021 term, how will it be different from the usual Grenada program?
SGU will continue to provide all of our new and returning students with the best learning experience possible. Whether on campus or online, we are committed to providing you with the resources and support you will need and delivering the same level of education that has led to strong outcomes for the past 40 years, such as performing well on the USMLE and excellence in postgraduate residency attainment. We have developed an engaging distance learning curriculum with live courses, small-group study, a new student portal, and personalized academic support to provide students with the tools and resources needed to succeed.
What is the first day of class for the School of Medicine August term?
The first day of class for Term 1 is August 16.
Will the White Coat Ceremony and Family Weekend events happen in Grenada?
The White Coat Ceremony and Family Weekend for August 2021 Term 1 students in the Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine will take place during Term 2 in January or February. We will share more details at a later date as plans are finalized, but our hope is that delaying this milestone event until the next term will allow the vast majority of our students and their families to participate and celebrate in person with all of your classmates.
Will SGU be charging less tuition for online distanced learning?
At St. George’s University, supporting student success is at the very core of what we do. In response to the global pandemic, SGU has made significant investments to provide a supportive and fully integrated online curriculum. Our goal is clear—to prepare each student to succeed at key milestones on their path toward a rewarding healthcare career. We are committed to doing all we can to ensure each student has the ability to complete their educational program and earn their degree in the timeline they intend. As soon as our students can safely return to in-person education, we will resume teaching on our campuses.
To achieve online educational goals, SGU has invested in developing and implementing various aspects of online education, providing online technology platforms and tools, as well as training faculty and staff to educate students in this format. We have provided a strong and supportive environment to allow students to maintain their academic progress. The vast majority of other university expenses continue unchanged, including salary for faculty and staff and upkeep of our facilities and hospital relationships.
SGU has a track record of providing the resources needed to help our students succeed and we will continue to make those investments even through this current pandemic. The unprecedented pandemic is impacting SGU with unexpected additional expenses associated with this emergency situation. When each student completes their degree, they will have received the education and degree expected for the cost they anticipated.
